HairCandy uses our own brand of hair. The hair is 100% virgin cuticle hair. This means that the cuticle is fully intact, healthy and all cuticles flow in the same direction from root to tip. This allows you to use the hair for 1 + year. You will not find a higher quality of hair than our brand. HairCandy will never compromise on the hair quality. It is the quality of the hair that makes or break the look of hair extensions looking so natural. You do not want Barbie hair, which is cheap, low grade hair.
Wash your extensions three to five times a week. Don’t wash your extensions every day. Just like your normal hair, they’ll become dried out if you over-wash them. On days that you don’t wash your hair, give it a gentle rinse and use some conditioner.
How often you should wash your hair depends on its thickness, oil content and how much product you use in it.
For example someone with thick, dry hair who doesn’t use too much product wouldn’t have to wash as often as someone with thin, oily hair who styles it daily.
Treat them like your natural hair. If your extensions are sewn, micro-linked, or fused you can wash them along with your natural hair in the shower. Be gentle, though, so that you don’t loosen your extensions. If you’re too rough with them, they won’t last as long.
Be sure to use a shampoo that is formulated to your needs. The more that a shampoo moisturizes, the better it will be for your hair.
1. Use salon grade shampoos and conditioners made without sulfate, parabens, and silicone. Sulfates are the cleaning detergents in shampoos that cause them to foam. Sulfates are effective cleaners. However, they can dry out the natural oils in your hair that serve to protect it. Your body is constantly creating new oils for your natural hair, but your extensions do not have a direct supply, so you need to be very careful about drying them out. You should always shampoo your hair twice. Why, you ask? Shampooing your hair twice is beneficial because it allows for proper cleansing, giving you longer periods of time with a clean scalp and keeping away the oily hair problem,” he says. “It also keeps you away from over-shampooing your hair, which is a mistake that most women make. A general rule of thumb, the first shampoo washes the hair, and the second shampoo washes the scalp. It is very important to wash your scalp. Scalp buildup can cause hair loss if left untreated and the dead skin, oil, and sweat clog your hair follicles. This can lead to an uncomfortable condition called folliculitis. Folliculitis causes inflammation of the hair follicles that sometimes results in infection.
Treat them like your natural hair. If your extensions are sewn, microlinked, or fused in, you can wash them along with your natural hair in the shower. Be gentle, though, so that you don’t loosen your extensions. If you’re too rough with them, they won’t last as long.
Be sure to use a moisturizing formula shampoo. The more that a shampoo moisturizes, the better it will be for your hair.
It is not a good idea to wash extensions that are glued or clipped in along with your natural hair. These should be removed and treated separately.
Sulfates can cause split ends to form in your hair.
Sulfates can make your hair look dry or frizzy over time.
2. We also recommend using a hair mask minimum once a week. Hair masks such as the brand Moroccan oil, reduces hair breakage and damage, gives added moisture to reduce frizz, split ends. Hair masks will also add shine, make your hair softer and is also a treatment for your scalp.
3. Use conditioner. Each strand of hair has a protective cuticle layer. Not only does the cuticle layer protect the hair strand, it also reflects sunlight which gives your hair its shine. Throughout the day, the cuticle layer gets broken down, leaving your hair looking limp and dull. Conditioners give your hair back its body and shine by releasing positively charged particles that latch onto the negatively charged parts of your hair and repair the cuticle layers. Make sure to work the conditioner all the way into the roots of your hair.
4. We also highly recommend using a leave in heat protectant spray and or argan oil. Heat protectants add a barrier between your styling tool and your hair, sealing in moisture and fending off frizz. It also smooths your cuticle making your hair look and feel softer.
Side note… just like sunscreen, the barrier created by heat protectants fight off free radical damage caused by UV rays.
5. Dry your hair. Blow-dry your hair completely before going to bed. You should never go to bed while your permanent hair extensions are wet. Wet hair extensions will bunch up causing tangles to form. As you move around in your sleep, the tangles in your extensions could get stuck and pull on your natural hair, damaging it.
If your natural hair is braided underneath the extensions, make sure it gets completely dry, too. If it doesn’t, you could develop mildew and an unpleasant odor.
Matting is evil! It’s one of the worst things that can happen to hair extensions. When your hair becomes impossibly tangled, it is damaging to your hair, your extensions, and your scalp. Knowing how to brush your extensions properly is an essential part of keeping your hair beautiful, long, and healthy.
Brush using a soft bristle brush. This brush is great because it’s made up of soft bristles that allow you to brush your hair on the scalp without harming the extensions. This brush won’t pull out hair or cause strain on the connection points. By brushing your scalp especially while the extensions are in, this will help prevent any matting, and like I said, “Matting is evil”. If you find that the soft bristle brush just doesn’t cut it for the rest of the hair, use a wet brush. I really don’t recommend using a wet brush on the scalp close to the bonds/rows. The tiny little balls on the wet brush can get caught and cause damage to your hair.
6. To brush: hold your hair roots with one hand to support the permanent hair extensions bonds/rows. With the other hand, brush gently by starting at the ends and working up toward the scalp. Always go in a downward direction to preserve the hair’s natural direction.
It’s important to brush at least three times a day. It’s one of the best ways you can get the most out of your hair extensions.
